The NYC Parks Department is partnering with the beloved Brooklyn Night Bazaar, which closed in November, in order to turn the old McCarren Park House in Brooklyn into a restaurant concept.
Brooklyn Night Bazaar was a popular music venue and food hall that made its way in Williamsburg from 2016-2019. Multiple businesses that the partners have run always ran into leasing issues in NYC, so hopefully this project offers a new start.
Besides just offering Brooklyners another place to hang in the Park, the project will involve restoring and updating the decades-old building, and will also add a kitchen, additional bathroom space, and a large patio with seating.
The NYC Parks Department told us that the team received Public Design Commission concept approval in December and are now working on the preliminary design documents. They anticipate having all approvals by this summer and then will begin construction.
The eatery appears to be more snack-bar than restaurant, and the Brooklyn Paper reports that it will apply for a liquor license and serve alcohol.
“We are excited about the restoration of the McCarren Park House and all the benefits adding a concession here will bring,” said Davis Cerron, Assistant Commissioner for Concessions. “It helps reactivate this space and encourages parkgoers to enjoy the amenities of this snack bar right in their own backyard. It’s an excellent opportunity for local business to partner with NYC Parks to improve the community we serve.”
A Spring 2021 opening is expected!
