No, marijuana is not yet legal in New York City. However, according to a recent report by CNN, Mayor Bill de Blasio has told the police department to stop arresting those caught smoking marijuana publicly.
Until now, if you were caught smoking you’d be arrested, and you’d receive a summons if you were in possession of a small amount of the substance. The report claims that the NYPD has already been evaluating their enforcement procedures when it comes to marijuana, and reviewing their policies on public smoking and possession.
The new policy changes will be enforced beginning at the end of the summer.
