This morning a large sinkhole opened on West 82nd Street. The area, between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, is not far from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route that will take place this Thursday.

The hole was created by an old water main break. According to CBS New York’s initial report on the situation, the water will have to be drained from the hole before the road can be repaired.

At about 20 feet long the sinkhole is massive, especially for a location that local Katie Rosman says is “one of the biggest pedestrian thoroughfares” for the Thanksgiving Parade.
