First Target, now Marshalls. The Lower East Side is getting some updates, and not everyone is a fan.
It’s no secret that LES has been in the process of an overhaul—from new luxury buildings, to the closing of Sunshine Cinema for offices and retail spaces, and even the Essex Street Market that is expected to take over three whole blocks. As part of all these changes, Marshalls will be one of the first signs of this change when it opens next to Katz’s Deli in September.
According to their website, Marshalls will have their grand opening on September 27. Their hours will be 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. It will be located at the base of the new luxury building by Ben Shaoul on East Houston Street. The 11-story building with 94 apartments is also home to a new Equinox location, which opened this week.
While it’ll be nice to have affordable retail options in the area without having to trek too far, it’s no secret that the onrush of chains is pushing out local businesses and further driving up prices for shops and renters alike.
