Get ready to be awed—an elaborate display of enormous lanterns is coming to Staten Island next week!
Beginning on Wednesday, November 20th, NYC’s Winter Lantern Festival will be lighting up eight acres of the city into the New Year. With over 1,000 lanterns on display sculpted into wondrous luminescent art figures, it’s a magical experience for all ages. In addition to the mesmerizing visuals, there will also be interactive exhibits and live cultural shows taking place throughout the season.
The festival will not only feature plenty of gorgeous lights in lantern sculptures, but will also host cultural performances including Tibetan Folk Dance, plate/bowl spinning, and a sub-genre of Chinese Sichuan Opera.
This year, the Winter Lantern Festival will run a bit longer, lasting until January 12. They’ll be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (with the exception of December 30 and 31), but they will be open from 5pm until 9:30pm on Wednesday and Thursdays; from 5pm until 10:30pm from Friday until Sunday; and from 5pm until 10:30 on the last Monday and Tuesday of December. You can also expect a fun zone for kids, face painting, a food court and other fun activities.
