Just when you thought the Poké-mania had died down, thousands of people gathered together in Madrid, Spain, for a record-breaking Pokemon hunt that smashed previous events held in Tokyo, London, Sidney, Montreal and yes… New York.
Between 5,000 – 7,000 people gathered in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol at 7pm local time (1pm in NY), to catch Pokemon together. The event’s organizer chose Puerta del Sol as the meeting point because the plaza has two “gyms” where players can train and fight their Pokemon. The plaza is also considered the “center” of Spain, so it must have made an iconic spot for battle, right?
The event was organised by Fever; a Spanish startup and world leader in event discovery with a strong presence in London, New York as well as the biggest Spanish cities. Thanks to Fever, Niantic, the creators of the game, are considering the Spanish capital for the release of the first “Legendary” Pokémon.
