The chance of finding a pearl in an oyster is less than a 1 in 100,000.
A retired executive was having lunch with a friend earlier this month at Grand Central Terminal’s Oyster Bar when he chomped down on something hard. Thinking a tooth had fallen out, New Jersey resident Rick Antosh was pleasantly surprised to find a shiny white pearl in his mouth instead!
In an interview with WPIX news, the lucky customer explained that at first, he didn’t know what to do. After calling over the general manager, he learned that a situation like his had never occurred before at the restaurant. Although he has still not gotten the pearl appraised, a shiny white one like the one he found could be valued anywhere from $2,000- $4,000.
We’re putting Grand Central‘s Oyster Bar on our New York City bucket list! Who knows, you might get lucky!
