Is ‘Lorde Summer‘ approaching?! It might just be.
When the pop superstar shared a cryptic viral video a few weeks ago strolling through Washington Square Park, fans were eager to know what the singer had up her sleeve.
Hinting at the coming release of her first album in four years and brand new lead single “What Was That” it set the internet ablaze with excitement.
Fast forward a few weeks to Tuesday (April 22) when Lorde sent out a text blast to her fans to “Meet me in the park. Tonight 7 p.m” with an image of what appeared to be Washington Square Park.
By 6 pm, hundreds, if not thousands, of fans flocked to the iconic square to await Lorde and catch a glimpse of her showing off…something.
Shortly around 7 pm, Lorde posted on her story saying that the NYPD shut down the event, as she lacked a permit to host a pop-up in the middle of the park.
“I am truly Amazed by how many of you showed up!!! But they’re telling me you gotta disperse … I’m so sorry,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
But there was more to the story.
Low and behold, by 8:30 pm, fans who stuck around the area were at last greeted to Lorde debuting her new single “What Was That” in full.
She hopped on a white crate and danced to her new track while New Yorkers recorded on phones, screamed joy, and even sang along?
Take a look below at all the mayhem that finally ended up with a grand appearance:
The new single will release this Thursday, April 24th.
