The NYPL is teaming up with Marvel for the most epic alliance yet! Celebrate the power of reading with a brand new, limited-edition Spider-Man library card coming to select branches this month.
The limited-edition library cards will honor the superhero’s 60th anniversary since his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962. Vintage comic book images of Spider-Man with Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy will decorate the cards, perfect for a soon-to-be collector’s item.
These new library cards will be available starting Tuesday, October 11th across branches in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

“Reading is a superpower—one that provides everyone with the ability to learn, to be inspired, and understand the world more fully,” said New York Public Library President Anthony W. Marx. “At The New York Public Library we remain dedicated to providing books and resources that help New Yorkers reach new heights and working with Marvel on this exciting, limited-edition Spider-Man card reinforces the exceptional accomplishments people can achieve when they have access to information. It also states unequivocally that we think our patrons are ‘beyond amazing.’”
With a library card, residents will gain access to an extensive selection of Marvel graphic novels, events for comics, free programs, and more. Branches across the aforementioned boroughs will also kick off a new Open House Week on Tuesday, October 11th. While grabbing their new limited-edition Spider-Man library card, readers can collect free NYPL goodies and participate in an exciting book giveaway. Card holders can even take a free comic book home while supplies last.

While you wait in anticipation for these exciting new Spider-Man library cards, check out NYPL at Comic Con, running October 6th-9th. Hosted at the Javits Center, the annual convention will feature panel discussions given or moderated by NYPL staff. Plus, a few of the limited-edition library cards will be given out during the event, before they’re available to the general public!
Need more of Peter Parker? The 900th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man is available at the NYPL. The story follows Parker in a creative narrative that features the NYPL and its one year anniversary of eliminating late fees. The NYPL is also home to The Amazing Spider-Man: Revelations, Amazing Spider-Man: Worldwide, Vol. 3, Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider, Vol. 2: Impossible Year, The Amazing Spider-Man: 2099 and Spider-Man Noir: Twilight in Babylon.
