Walking through the five boroughs means crossing paths with a cast of deeply eccentric characters.
One day it’s a commuter balancing an iguana on their shoulder on the subway, the next it’s a neighbor struggling with an overflowing bag of laundry down the block.
These raw, unpolished moments define the city’s chaotic pulse.
But for the past 15 years, another familiar face has quietly joined this daily mosaic: Frank Ape.
If you’ve spent any time walking the streets of NYC, you’ve definitely spotted this friendly, ape-like creature plastered on local walls, street lamps, and murals.
Now, the iconic street art staple commands a massive, dedicated two-floor gallery takeover in the Lower East Side!
Capturing the neighborhood pulse
Step inside Cycol Gallery at 91 Allen St, and you’ll immediately find yourself immersed in a colorful universe dedicated entirely to the lovable primate.
Titled “Let’s Be Frank,” the showcase is the brainchild of NYC-based artist Brandon Sines, who has expanded his character-driven language into his biggest, most ambitious project yet.
The space acts as a love letter to our gritty, unpredictable streets.
At the center of the exhibition is Home Is All of Us, an epic 8-foot sculptural Frank that anchors the show both physically and conceptually.
It reframes the concept of “home”—not as a cramped NYC apartment, but as a shared condition built by the constant, collective presence of the millions of people around us.
“Home isn’t just a place, it’s something we build together every day, whether we realize it or not,” Sines explains.

Immersive gardens and concrete canvas
Surrounding the towering Frank is a brand-new body of paintings called Frank Friends.
Drawn directly from Sines’s lived encounters across the city (yes, including the iguana subway guy!), these instantly recognizable figures reflect the people we pass, avoid, admire, or become on our daily commutes.
But the exhibit doesn’t stop there.
Head deeper into the gallery and you’ll discover Growth, a fully immersive installation that translates the metaphor of the mind as an urban garden into spatial form.
Expect a jaw-dropping convergence of painting, sculpture, video, and floor-to-ceiling wall murals that creates a wildly atmospheric and contemplative experience.
The best part? Admission to this multi-level exhibit is 100% free.
Sines designed the gallery to be radically inclusive to all New Yorkers.
“It’s all about all of us,” he emphasizes. “It’s celebrating all of us. I did not want anyone to feel like they can’t come.”
