On Thursday, October 30th, LaGuardia, Newark, and JFK grounded flights due to the extreme weather in NYC, which includes bursts of heavy rain and winds that can reach up to 50 mph.

LaGuardia, Newark, & JFK flights grounded — here’s what to know
According to the FAA, here’s what currently happening at our tristate airports at the time of publication (2:45pm on Thursday):
JFK
- Ground stop: 2:12pm to 3:45pm EDT; departures to John F Kennedy International are grounded due to wind
- Ground delay: 1pm to 11:5pm EDT; Departures to John F Kennedy International are delayed avg. 250 mins. due to wind
- Departure delay: Departures from John F Kennedy International are delayed an average of 45 mins (and growing)
LGA
- Ground stop: 2:19pm to 4pm EDT due to wind
- Ground delay: 12:09pm to 12:59am EDT with an average delay of 172 minutes due to low ceilings
- Departure delay: average of 90 minutes and growing
Newark (EWR)
- Airport closure: Newark International is closed TO GA ACFT EXC 2HR PPR 973-624-1660, per FAA
- Ground stop 1:19pm to 3:45pm EDT; departures to Newark International are grounded due to thunderstorms
- Ground delay: departures to Newark International are delayed average 198 minutes due to thunderstorms
- Departure delay: average 150 mins and growing

The main crux of the storm is expected Thursday afternoon and evening, with rainfall up to 1-2 inches. Flooding is expected in certain areas. Fortunately, conditions are expected to be OK when it comes time for Halloween night on Friday.
