You’ve heard about puppy yoga, but this NYC studio is turning Downward Dog into Cat Pose!
After coming across this adorable TikTok posted by dainty.nugs, we started looking into which NYC studios offer the chance to practice yoga with playful kittens nearby.
Fortunately, we came across NYC’s Kitty Yoga, where you can move your body, settle your mind and play with adorable kittens all in the same hour.
“Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where both kittens and people can benefit, while always prioritising the well-being of the cats we welcome,” reads the Kitty Yoga website. In the last year, Kitty Yoga already helped 12 rescue cats find purr-manent homes.
Where are the kittens from?
Kittens from each class come from ethical and TICA-registered breeders. Kitty Yoga works in tandem with local shelters and rescue organizations to support adoption efforts and help these kittens find a forever family.
How are the classes run?
For the first 40 minutes, students will be instructed to follow various stretches, poses and breathe work in yin yoga. Kittens will be brought out in the remaining 20 minutes of class to finish the experience with an oxytocin boost.
Each session highlights a new cat breed so students can learn about their specific traits and temperaments.
How do I know which kittens will be in class?
Students can stay up to date on which kittens will be present for a specific class on the studio’s Instagram and Facebook page, where they share the Kitty of the Week.
There’s also an opportunity to win a free class by participating in Guess the Kitty on their Instagram story.
Are mats provided?
Yoga and pilates mats are provided at Kitty Yoga, so no one has to worry about getting any scratches on their personal equipment.
Where do the kittens go after class?
After the class, the kittens are returned to their environments. Kitty Yoga gives the adorable kittens time to socialize in preparation for when they are adopted one day.
