The Kingsbridge Armory, likely the largest military armory in the world, has undergone an extensive history.
Now, the Bronx landmark is gearing up for a new chapter: its transformation into a $216 “community hub.”
“From training troops during the first World War to distributing food during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kingsbridge Armory has served our city for more than a century. With today’s vote, we begin work on the next chapter in its dynamic history and building a brighter future for the Bronx,” Mayor Adams said in a statement.

A peak inside the Kingsbridge Armory plans
The project has been decades in the making, and now, the New York City Council is ensuring that the dream becomes a reality.
“Today’s City Council vote marks a major step toward bringing Bronx communities together—creating hundreds of affordable homes, thousands of good-paying, local jobs, and a vibrant community space where neighbors can connect,” Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

Predictions indicate that the Armory will add a total of 3,600 jobs to the city and bring in an extra $2.9 to the local economy — not too shabby!
The project includes two phases and features a variety of spaces, including 500 apartments, an event space, and beyond.
Phase 1
- Venue space
- Recreational space
- Cultural and commercial space
- Light industrial manufacturing space
- Over 25,000 square feet of dedicated community space
Phase 2
- 500 units of permanently-affordable rental housing
Bronx Borough President Gibson added, “The redevelopment of this landmark in the heart of the Northwest Bronx stands as a testament to our shared commitment to driving unprecedented investment back into our borough.”
Phase 1 will break ground in 2026. Phase two is expected to be complete in 2032. Stay tuned as more news develops.
