Maybe work didn’t give you days off as you mourned a childhood icon (RIP Kingda Ka), but you can at least pay your respects next month at Wonderville, a Bushwick bar, set to host a funeral for the fallen coaster.
The demolition, of what stood as New Jersey’s tallest roller coaster at 456 feet, occurred on February 28th, 2025. News of its closing was only released a few months prior.
Riders hearts broke as they watched a controlled implosion crumble their favorite ride to the ground.
The retirement of Kingda Ka however promises a new multi-record-breaking launch coaster set to debut in 2026. That being said, we can still mourn the end of the iconic green roller coaster properly—and Wonderville is setting out to do just that.
“Considering this monument to the extreme boundaries of engineering was shuttered without warning, leaving those who would have liked to take a final ride on it in the dust,” Wonderville remarked in a statement, “it is only right that we gather for a makeshift farewell mere weeks before what would have been its 20th birthday.”
The memorial service will take place at the bar on Monday, April 7th from 8pm to 11:30pm. Visitors should prepare for a night of readings, performances, videos and a history presentation, all in addition to an open mic where people will have the chance to say a few words (no more than five minutes) on the topic of “grief, loss and roller coasters.”
The bar welcomes all to the Kingda Ka funeral, whether it was your favorite roller coaster or you were always to scared to ride. You can rsvp online now.
