Antoya BBQ and Angelina Bakery owner, Tony Park, has joined forces with Angel’s Share and NR veteran, Shigefumi “Shige” Kabashima, to create the newest nightlife spot that had been missing from Midtown.
The team is combining Japanese bartending techniques with Korean-style tapas inspired by Park’s Korean heritage. Though Park is no stranger to the NYC dining scene, Katherine is his first-ever cocktail-forward space—but let’s be honest, has his establishments ever disappointed? Never!
“The opening of Katherine marks an exciting moment in time for myself and the QB team.” Park shares. “As we continue to grow our group of restaurants, Katherine, named for my wife, showcases the variety of experiences that we are hoping to bring to life in New York City. With more openings on the horizon, I will continue to draw inspiration from my family as I have for all of our locations, and continue to tap into my family’s culinary and cultural roots in both Italy and Korea.”
Upon entrance, guests can take in the expansive 1,421 square foot space as they grab a spot from the 65 available seats. Katherine’s interior pays homage to New York City with exposed original brick, that beautifully contrasts with glossy jade and black tile-work and reclaimed wood ceilings. Gold wall accents elevate the atmosphere along with leather banquettes. And come the warmer months, Katherine’s seating will expand outdoors to the sidewalk through glass doors that extend the full width of the venue.
The mouthwatering menu will feature a seasonal tapas selection. Current highlights include Galbi Jjim (Korean short ribs), Sea Urchin served with Osetra caviar, champagne, dong-chi-mi and crème, Langoustine with tuna, castella and white kimchi, and many more.
For cocktails, many on the menu utilize milk washing, a process that uses milk to create intentional curds that will be filtered out when added to a spirit. Standout drinks include the “Little Sister” made with tomato and red alaea salt or the “AM Apple Dew” with apple, shiso and elderflower.
