Known for her soulful folk-pop style, Ingrid Michaelson is a force in the music industry. Over the years, the singer released platinum hits “The Way I Am,” “Girls Chase Boys,” and “You and I” on the label she founded — Cabin 24 Records. With this new album, For the Dreamers, her refreshing and honest songs get a nostalgic makeover, transporting us to the cinematic dream of the 40s and 50s with tunes à la Sinatra that ooze with sensibility.
On August 22, you’ll get to listen to her new album during a warm Candlelight concert at Sony Hall. Accompanied by a string quartet and pianist, Ingrid Michaelson will perform fresh songs — and reinvent her top hits — at the heart of the stunning venue.
Born in NYC to a sculptor mother and classical composer father, Ingrid Michaelson has always lived and breathed art. Among her long list of accomplishments, a few highlights stand out, including musical score creation for Little Fires Everywhere (Emmy nomination), Tiny Beautiful Things, and Slumberkins.
Michaelson also acted as a guest star in season 3 of Netflix’s Girls 5 Eva, starred on-stage in Broadway’s Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and made her composer debut on Broadway, writing the music & lyrics for Tony-nominated musical, The Notebook.
The new release For the Dreamers will feature Michaelson’s own recording of a song from that musical, an original duet, “Love Is” with Jason Mraz, covers of “What a Wonderful World,” “You Make Me Feel So Young,” and “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” — along with 8 original songs.
For the Dreamers’ traditional pop sound calls for the soothing atmosphere of Candlelight concerts. Hundreds of candles dancing as Ingrid Michaelson, a string quartet and pianist perform together? Sounds like a dream indeed.
