You won’t have to wait until the holiday season to see NYC completely aglow in lights this year!
A brand-new festival will be lighting up Brooklyn this October for all New Yorkers to enjoy.
The first-ever Illumination Light Art Festival will take place under the Kosciuszko Bridge starting October 7 at the new Under the K Bridge Park, and hopes to serve as a “visual beacon of hope and inspiration as we come out from a challenging period for NYC.” Put on by Illumination NYC — whose team includes producers of the DUMBO Arts Festival and the Pines Party — you can expect immersive, multisensory installations by incredible artists as well as spellbinding performances and plenty of food and drink!
The community-centered (and family-friendly) event will take place October 7-9, nightly from 6-11 p.m. The festival will span two zones of the brand new park, allowing New Yorkers to immerse themselves in over 10 stunning light-based installations and interactive experiences. Expect to see festival goers in their best light-up gear and art installations straight from Burning Man!
And some installations will even incorporate the architecture of the bridge itself.
Featured world-renowned artists include: Paolo Montiel, Rhizome Creative, Robert Montenegro, Darrell Thorne and up & coming artists from NYU’s IDM (Integrated Digital Media) and ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) departments.
Of course, appropriate COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed including advanced registration with timed entry, and capping attendance to ensure appropriate social distancing.
And best of all? The Illumination Light Art Festival is completely free to attend. But, if you want to treat yourself you can also get a VIP ticket for $35 that includes two drinks, an LED engraved Illumination bracelet, cut-the-line, and no timed entry!
