Battery Park City will light up like never before this May as this highly anticipated and multi-sensory light art festival returns for its second event.
Illumination Light Art’s Spring Showcase is bringing a one-of-a-kind outdoor light festival downtown, giving New Yorkers the chance to see Battery Park City in a whole new light, interact with light-based creations, dance to DJs under the stars, and catch a surprise performance or two.
Celebrating art and community, seven local and international light artists will come together to showcase their illuminating work, which will feature a mixture of projection mapping, interactive video art, UV light art, and more.
Plus, each night of the five-night festival will feature a different DJ to add to the lively atmosphere, while other surprises will pop up throughout the week.
The festival concludes on Saturday, May 6, with a silent disco by QuietEvents, which promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Illumination is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower light artists and provide them a
platform to showcase their creativity and share their vision with a wider audience.
“We are thrilled to bring the Illumination Spring Showcase to Manhattan. Light art has the power to move people in ways that other art forms cannot and having Battery Park City as a canvas for artists to create upon is will be fantastic for the whole community,” said Ron Fisher, Executive Director & Founder of Illumination.
Illumination’s Spring Showcase will take over Belvedere Plaza in Battery Park City from Tuesday, May 2 to Saturday, May 6. It’s free to the public and appropriate for all ages.
“Illumination NYC is thrilled to showcase stunning light installations crafted by visionary local artists in Battery Park City this May that will inspire the community’s imagination and delight visitors of all ages!” said Fisher.
To join in on the fun, festival goers are encourage to wear glow in the dark attire and bring light up props, necklaces, hats, and anything else that shines in the night! If your closet is lacking in those particular items, don’t fret–there will be a light shop there to purchase some goodies.
