New Yorkers, get ready! Pretty soon you won’t have to make your way to Brooklyn to shop at IKEA since there will be a second location opening up within Manhattan.
Come springtime, the Swedish company will be opening their very first Manhattan store at 999 Third Avenue on the Upper East Side. Dubbed the “IKEA Planning Studio,” this new space will be the first to implement the studio concept in the United States. What does this mean? Well, according to a press release, it means the store is being “co-created with New Yorkers who provided input to IKEA throughout the planning process.” In regards to this being the first city center store for the brand, Lars Petersson, Country Manager of IKEA Retail U.S. says:
“We recognize that we are in a rapidly changing retail environment, and to be fit for long-term growth, IKEA is transforming in a way that lets us meet our customers where they are. New York City is the natural choice to open the first city center store – the most vibrant, dynamic city in the US, and the epicenter of retail, business, and culture.”
The press release goes on to mention that this store will have a primary focus of providing smart solutions for small spaces (something just about every New Yorker can relate to). Although anyone can already order IKEA products online and have it delivered to their home, wouldn’t it be nice to see it in person before purchasing? The Planning Studio will allow customers to purchase the products they like and get it delivered to their home.
This new store is part of the company’s plan to create 30 new stores in city centers over the course of the next three years. There are also plans for the Brooklyn outpost to be remodeled.
