Leaf peeping season is upon us, and the I Love NY Fall Foliage Report is officially live. We can fill the chill in the air as we speak!
Every year, the travel organization divvies up the Empire State by region and indicates where each stands in terms of foliage — no change, just changing, mid-point, near peak, at peak and past peak.
From there, it provides a color report, indicating the percentage of trees that have begun to change. (And vice versa, the ones that are still green.)
Professionals venture out into their respective environments to uncover the trees’ status, and I Love NY shares a weekly report on Wednesdays. So, where do we stand for the first report the fall 2025 season?
A deep dive into the I Love NY Fall Foliage Report
According to the first report of the season, things are still fairly green across the state. However, should you be interested in a pre-fall escape, the Adirondacks and the Catskills will experience the most significant color changes this weekend. (And if you fancy an overnight stay, there’s a horror movie drive-in that deserves your attention, too.)

As far as NYC goes, well, we’re not quite in fall mode just yet (but hopefully we’re getting there). Per the color reports, there is a less than 5% color change predicted for Pelham Bay, Central Park, and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Here’s hoping that we start to get some changes soon.

And fortunately for fall enthusiasts everywhere, we did a deep dive to uncover the peak fall foliage dates across the state, so you can prepare your calendar accordingly. See ya out there!
