Get ready for a fabulous new musical to hit the stage in 2021 when the iconic Devil Wears Prada story comes to life on Broadway!
The famous novel-turned-film is already being adapted for the stage, and the leading roles have finally been cast. Playing the role of Miranda Priestly in the musical adaptation will be Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, and the role of journalist Andy Sachs will be played by Taylor Iman Jones.
The highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada musical was originally scheduled to begin its pre-Broadway run in Chicago in 2020, but has recently been postponed to the summer of 2021. The show will run for a short time at the CIBC Theatre from July 13 to August 15 before making its way to Broadway (although an exact venue has yet to be announced).
According to a report by Deadline, the show’s producer Kevin McCollum said:
“We realized that we wanted more time to work on the show. Our creative team members are in demand around the world with ridiculous schedules. The new dates mean that not only do we get an ideal theatre in Chicago (the CIBC Theatre), it also allows our New York landlord to confirm the Broadway venue, which means we have more time to coordinate our physical design, marketing and sales plans accordingly.”
Directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, The Devil Wears Prada musical adaptation will have music written by the one and only Elton John along with lyrics written by Shaina Taub. The book for the show will be written by Paul Rudnick.
Further casting will be announced at a later date.
