Hekate is NYC’s newest and first alcohol-free bar for the sober and “sober-curious.” Located at 167 Avenue B, the spot joins the new wave of sober bars that have gained recent traction in a post-pandemic world.
With health and wellness becoming a focal point for many consumers and entrepreneurs following COVID-19, Hekate is swapping out spirits for non-alcoholic elixirs.
The intimate venue was brought to life by founder, Abby Ehmann, who has been in the bar business for 30 years and believes that “booze shouldn’t be the only basis for socializing.”
Charged with female energy, Hekate is an amiable place for those seeking an alternative to the more traditional bars. Step inside the space and you’ll find it just as intoxicating without all the alcohol.
Each experimental elixir prioritizes a certain health benefit, be it energy, stress reduction, better sleep, etc. Priced between $10-$12, Ehmann’s elixirs are a combination of intuition and unique ingredients with a “weird twist” that makes perfect sense in conjunction to the witch-vibe decor and irregular art livening the venue.
Some elixirs on the menu include:
The Healer – Apothekary’s Blue Me Away, lemonade, seltzer, and lavender simple syrup
Spring Spritz – Lyre’s Italian spritz & Lyre’s classico prosecco
Earthbound – Curious Elixir #2 seltzer, beet juice, and seltzer
Jalapeno Margarita – Seedlip Grove, lime juice, seltzer, and jalapeno simple syrup
Coffee, non-alcoholic beers, alcohol-free spirits and champagne are available for purchase as well.
The sober bar is currently in its soft opening stage, however, save the date for its official grand opening on September 22, 2022. Ehmann encourages curious customers to stop by and offer feedback for improvement until then.
