It breaks our hearts to have to say that the Queen of Soul has passed away.
It was announced today that Aretha Franklin, 76, has passed after being seriously ill and in hospice for several days. Before her passing, NYC was showing their love for her, and turned the Franklin Street subway station into a tribute. The unofficial tribute transformed this station in Tribeca into the “Aretha Franklin” station. Adding “Aretha” above all the subway signs on the platform, and kind words on the stairs that read “Say a little prayer for Aretha” and “Aretha makes me feel like a natural woman.”
While not exactly an official tribute, we hope that the MTA does not take down these station additions.
An official tribute, however, is set to take place in November at Madison Square Garden. Check back for updates on dates.
