Feeling nostalgic, because we’ve found the place you should be dying to roll into! 🛼
Lace up your skates and hit the road—because just a few hours from NYC lies the largest indoor roller-skating rink in the entire world, and trust us, it’s totally worth the trip.
Spanning a jaw-dropping 50,000 square feet, Guptill’s Arena has been rolling strong since 1951, and it’s packed with vintage charm, high-energy vibes, and the kind of retro fun you didn’t know you needed this summer.
So, how big are we talking? 👀
Big enough to host hundreds of skaters at once—and still have room for a snack bar, arcade games, live DJ booth, and disco lights. Yep, it’s basically a full-on skating universe.
Complete with 400,000 oak boards fixed into place with nine tons of nails (according to Atlas Obscura), the rink’s wide-open layout and epic lighting setup make it feel like you’ve stepped into another era…in the best way possible.
It even garnered the title of the World’s Largest Indoor Roller Skating Rink title by the Guinness Book of World Records!
The retro and nostalgic history of Guptill’s Arena
The rink’s origin dates all the way back to 1946 when Charles Guptill Sr. first ideated the construction of the space, which would eventually finish in 1951.
Opening on Valentine’s Day 1951 (perfect for those romantic skating dates), the rink became instantly popular and has continued to be for over 70 years.
As electric today as it was in the ’50s, the rink’s historic decor still feels straight out of a mid-century daydream—bold neon signage, original murals, an overhanging disco ball, vintage concession stands, and even a vintage car on display.
It’s got the kind of old-school energy that hits the second your skates touch the floor and makes you feel like you’re in a movie…except it’s real, and you’re the star of the skate show.
What you might see 70+ years later
Interested enough to check it out yet? There’s plenty still to check out all these years later!
From glow-in-the-dark nights and throwback jams to family-friendly sessions and adults-only skates, this rink knows how to set the mood.
You can rent skates on-site (or bring your own), snack on classic rink bites, and snap pics under the rainbow lights for your feed.
Not a skater? No problem. The vibe is still top-tier—there’s even an arcade where you can play games and an on-site ice cream shop where you can devour sweet treats!
