This not-for-profit arboretum and museum is the absolute perfect urban escape. While late summer brings their famous lotus blossoms, the current season has its own unique magic as the landscape bursts into life.
Immersive art encounters
As you navigate the 42-acre space, you can interact directly with colossal pieces of art. A major standout is Roberto Lugo’s 20-foot mixed-media work, “Put Yourself in the Picture.”
If you prefer a golden-hour glow, the park officially rolls out extended evening access starting in May. You can wander among the towering artworks from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays.
Fresh exhibitions
Stepping indoors, the newly unsealed exhibition “Opening the Vault: A Look Inside the GFS Collection” debuts on May 17, 2026. It highlights incredible creations by American art masters.
Beyond the vault, you can experience the powerful “Salvador Jiménez-Flores: Raíces & Resistencias.”
This exhibit is anchored by an eye-catching 80-foot mural and unique bronze works. Another absolute must-see is Kiyan Williams’ “Ruins of Empire II“—a striking neoclassical portico installed outdoors this season.
A breathtaking French dining experience
No trip to the grounds is complete without a meal at the acclaimed on-site eatery. If you are craving pure Monet magic, you have to book a table at Rat’s Restaurant.
Named one of the 50 most beautiful restaurants in America, this rustic French spot features ivy-covered, old-world architecture.
Sit on the patio to soak in a spellbinding view of a spectacular water lily pond and a replica of Monet’s famous bridge in Giverny. If you just need a quicker, more casual bite, you can simply stop by the on-site Van Gogh Café.

The grounds are easily accessible from the NYC metropolitan area via public transit.
