If you don’t have a key to Gramercy Park, Christmas Eve is your chance to pretend like you do.
On Monday December 24, the park will open to the public for an hour of caroling. The annual tradition will take place from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., and is the only time of year that anyone can enter the park.
During the rest of the year, there are only 400 keys that can unlock the gates and they belong to the residents living in the surrounding 39 buildings. As noted by 6sqft, the locks are changed every year to ensure no one has made duplicates, and if you’re lucky enough to hold one of said keys you better not lose it! To replace a lost key to the park will run you $1,000.
Key holders are also allowed to bring in up to five guests whenever they visit, but if you don’t know anyone with a key Christmas Eve is your chance!
