During their recent concert at Madison Square Garden, Gorillaz surprised the audience by bringing Kelvin Mercer, better known as Posdnuos of the hip-hop group De La Soul, onto the stage. The unannounced guest appearance was orchestrated for a live rendition of the band’s 2005 crossover hit, “Feel Good Inc.”
A Familiar Hit Reimagined Live
Posdnuos took the microphone to introduce the performance, hyping up the packed arena by shouting, “We’re about to do this song called ‘Feel Good Inc.'” He was joined at the front of the stage by a second vocalist sporting a green camouflage shirt and a red beret. Behind the two frontmen, a sprawling live band—featuring a primary drum kit, an auxiliary percussionist on congas, a DJ setup, keyboardists, and backup singers—provided the instrumental backing for the track.
Engaging the Arena Crowd
As the performance neared its end, Posdnuos transitioned into a classic call-and-response routine, engaging directly with the thousands of fans in attendance. Pointing his microphone toward the dimly lit audience, he repeatedly shouted the phrase, “Don’t stop,” prompting the entire arena to roar back in unison, “Get it, get it.”
To control the energy of the room, he gradually lowered his voice and crouched down on the stage, leading the massive audience in bringing the echoing chant down to a near whisper. After a few final, quiet exchanges with the crowd, he wrapped up the guest appearance by simply stating, “Peace out, we love y’all,” before walking off the stage to applause.
