You’ll need to get past security to see the latest public art exhibition in Central Park…
A 410-pound pure gold cube was unveiled in Central Park today, for only a few short hours. Called The Castello CUBE, the creation marks the first time in human history when this amount of gold has been present in one single object, a press release shared.
Made of pure, 24-carat, 999.9 fine gold, the Castello CUBE is the work of artist Niclas Castello. It apparently took more than 4,500 hours to complete, and was made to draw attention to a new form of crypto currency called “Castello Coin,” which you can read about more on their website here.
“As physical brand ambassador, the artwork will constitute a bridge between the traditional and the virtual world,” the press release states.
Unfortunately it was only on view until the end of the day today (2/2) at the Naumburg Bandshell (located near the Bethesda Terrace area of the Park), but you can at least enjoy photos!
