Are you ready, gamers?
Play NYC, the biggest multi-day game convention in New York, is finally back for 2021. Last year it had to be moved to an online-only forum after months of planning—but now it’s back in person and better than ever!
The event will take place the weekend of August 7-8 at The Metropolitan Pavilion (125 W 18th St.). There are already over 60 games and demos lined up from studios in and around NYC, and you can even battle it out with live tournaments over the course of the weekend!
Plus, there will be two full days of streaming content and programming with talks and panels.
The theme for 2021’s event is “A Return to Playing Together,” highlighting how Gaming has been an important way for so many to stay connected, unwind, and even escape since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic a year and half ago. As the world opens up once again, Play NYC 2021 is heralding a return to once again playing together in person.
Play NYC first started in 2017 and is New York’s annual celebration of all things games and the people behind them. Of course, “games” is pretty all-encompassing. The event is equally suited for creators and players, showcasing the latest concepts from large studios and newbie developers alike.
Play NYC has always made it a mission to showcase the incredible diversity of the gaming community, which is a key component of their annual “Graffiti Games” initiative.
During Graffiti Games, developers are commissioned to create their own exclusive games for Play NYC that are promoted and enjoyed by thousands of attendees. This year they are amplifying game creators from a diversity of backgrounds, including BIPOC, female, and LGBTQIA+.
Play NYC is organized by Playcrafting and sponsored by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
Vaccine proof — or a negative COVID test result from the previous 48 hours for those under 16 — will be required at check-in, and they are working with the venue to make sure all local and federal guidelines are followed to ensure a fun and safe event.
Play with and support fellows New Yorkers during this incredible annual event!
