If you’re one of the 166,000 passengers who ride the G train each weekday, prepare for your commute to experience some chaos this week. The MTA is currently working to modernize signals on the G line–a $368 million project which began back in 2024–and unfortunately it will cause several service shakeups.
Major G Train Service Disruptions (April 13 – April 20)
The MTA has announced the following service changes and travel alternatives for the G line:
🚨 Weeknights, April 13-15 & April 20-24
From 9:45 pm to 5 am, G trains won’t run between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
- Free T403 shuttle buses will make stops between those two stations
🚨 Weekend, April 17-20
From 9:45 pm Friday (April 17) to 5 am Monday (April 20), G trains won’t run between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
- Free T403 shuttle buses will make stops between those two stations
- G trains will run every 10 minutes during the day and evening between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.

Why Is This Happening?
The MTA is currently working on an ongoing effort to modernize signals on the G line–which haven’t been updated in nearly 100 years. This includes installing equipment, including cables, that will support the new signaling system.
Some of the changes are also related to ongoing track maintenance.
While the commute chaos will likely cause quite the headache, these upgrades are important to keep the line in a state of good repair and ensure you have a smooth ride.
Pro-Tip: always check the MTA app or mta.info before you leave, as last-minute changes can occur.
