Back in February of this year Liz Johnson, the chef of LA’s controversial restaurant Horses, opened Frog Club in the West Village, a restaurant claiming to be “The New Yorkiest Room in New York” and being likened to the children’s book Frog and Toad “on a heroic dose of LSD.”
And while the restaurant had some unconventional ideas, such as forbidding inside photography, having the option to “kiss the chef” on the menu for $1,000, and releasing a list of ways to get 86’d, including “thinking about touching the memorabilia,” probably the craziest thing it did was take reservations exclusively by email.
For a while the only way to get into the restaurant was to email knocknock@frogclub.nyc, lie about it being an important occasion such as your anniversary, and pray that the restaurant would get back to you with a reservation time.
However, just days after opening their email address was removed from their Instagram and therefore unknown to most.
Though for anyone who lied or groveled to receive a reservation it may have been in vain–Frog Club is now accepting reservations via Resy.
It only makes sense to do this–in the first few weeks after opening Johnson would receive hundreds of reservation requests a day.
As of now, reservations are available through Monday, June 3rd.
Frog Club opened in February 2024 in the building that used to be home to the historic pub Chumley’s that first opened in 1922. The 68-seat restaurant is decorated head to toe with frogs and serves retro American food with a twist with a number of green dishes such as Spinach Soufflé New York New York and a green Bloody Mary.
You can keep up to date with them on their Instagram.
