Each October, the leaves in Freeport, Maine, take on stunning hues of fiery red, burnt orange, and shimmering yellow—and honestly, it’s a picturesque scene reminiscent of a Hallmark movie.
Just about a six-hour drive from NYC, it’s the perfect fall escape, and if you’re traveling there, there’s an annual event you need to put on your radar. The Freeport Fall Festival returns this October, officially kicking off the season just after being named the No. 3 best fall festival in America by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Freeport Fall Festival returns with 200+ artisans, Maine fare, and family fun
One of the largest free gatherings of its kind in the state, the festival runs from Friday, October 2, through Sunday, October 4, 2026, and gives visitors a true New England taste of fall.
Spanning the L.L.Bean Flagship Campus and surrounding downtown streets, the event brings together over 200 juried artists and makers. Visitors can browse fine art, jewelry, and crafts while sampling from dozens of artisanal food producers and local food trucks, including regional favorites like Mr. Tuna, Falafel Mafia, and Pinky D’s Soup Factory.
Beyond the shopping and eating, kids’ activities are a major draw. Families can participate in daily Boat and Tote painting sessions at the L.L.Bean studio, build with Legos, make glow-in-the-dark crafts, and enjoy hands-on science activities and readings with children’s authors.

Live music across five stages will headline the fest
This year’s live entertainment features a massive mix of local and regional talent performing continuously across five distinct stages: Discovery Park, Mallard, Town Hall, Memorial Park, and 135 Main Street.
The three-day lineup leans heavily into acoustic folk, bluegrass, classic rock, and Americana.
Performances range from the award-winning original folk-rock of The High Road to the soulful harmonies of The Mermaids, traditional Native American flute music by Scott Edwards, and classic country roots.
