New York City is absolutely lighting up with fun, free events this month—making the start of the new year feel anything but dull. With so much happening across the city, you might even forget about the cold. Probably. Maybe. At the very least, it’ll be much easier to ignore once you’ve layered up and stepped outside.
And speaking of bundling up, one of NYC’s most beloved winter pastimes is ice skating. With a wide variety of rinks offering everything from skyline views to neighborhood charm, and options for nearly every budget, the city truly shines this time of year.
Now, Roebling Rink at Brooklyn Bridge Park is taking things to the next level with an exciting new free concert series you can enjoy right on the ice. Glide, spin, or simply soak in the music while surrounded by stunning waterfront views. Winter in NYC doesn’t get much better than that.
The park is teaming up with Sofar Sounds for a brand-new pop-up concert series, bringing intimate live music to the rink on Thursday evenings from January 8th through January 29th.

Over the course of four nights, you can expect standout performances from some seriously talented NYC artists, all set against the park’s iconic waterfront backdrop. Add in great vibes, a strong sense of community, and the thrill of skating alongside live music, and you’ve got a winter plan worth braving the cold for.
And if you need one more reason to lace up your skates, Roebling Rink is also one of the most affordable ice rinks in the city. The concerts are free to join, but if you want to experience them on the ice, tickets are available for 60-minute sessions for $16. Skate rentals are just $8, and you’re more than welcome to bring your own if you have them. The music kicks off at 7 pm, with two surprise artists taking the stage each evening, and wraps up by 9 pm—making it an easy, budget-friendly winter plan that still feels special.
