Every July, New Yorkers look forward to one of the city’s biggest celebrations—Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. And this year, it promises to be “the most dynamic collection of animated shells ever launched during Macy’s annual spectacle.”
“This year’s Macy’s Fireworks celebration will be nothing short of showstopping,” said Will Coss, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, in a statement. “Millions of spectators come together every year to witness the spectacular performance along the East River and we are ready to deliver a high-flying, jaw-dropping fireworks display that will fill the night sky with color, light, shapes, and thunderous sound. Paired with a score featuring American classics, this year’s celebration will honor trailblazers that have forged our past, present, and future.”

The tradition has been “ooing” and “aweing” New Yorkers since 1974, making this year the 47th anniversary.
When are the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks?
The 47th annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will take place around 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday night, July 4, 2023.
Details about the fireworks?
According to a press release, 60,00 shells and effects will be launched from five barges in the middle of the East River in 30 shapes and colors. Expect a mile wide waving flag, new Ghost pyro and a sunflower ring.
Where can you watch the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks?
There will be dedicated areas for public viewing managed by the NYPD. Stay tuned for an announcement on the official public viewing areas across the boroughs to come. The spectacle can also be streamed on NBC & Peacock from 8pm – 10pm ET.
What about the music?
The musical score will feature “American classics,” in addition to a tribute in light, known as Macy’s Golden Mile, to the late Tina Turner. According to the press release, “thousands of golden-hued shells will create a dramatic cascade effect stretching for more than a mile across the East River” to Turner’s “The Best.”
