One of our city’s Dry Cleaners has stepped-up the to lend a helping had the city’s unemployed, and it’ll make you fall in love with the city all over again.
Around 6.1% of the city’s population are unemployed, and those of us that have trudged through the job market looking for work know exactly how soul sucking it can be. One dry cleaner in Astoria is offering a ray of sunshine to downtrodden job-hunters. They are offering to clean outfits for the unemployed who need them for job interviews free of charge.
Nicole’s Cleaners, 28-52 34th Street off 30th Ave, started the initiative to give NYC’s job-seekers hope and gove something back to the community. They don’t even force you to give proof of an interview, they work on the honor system.
The sign on his storefront reads:
“If you are unemployed and need an outfit clean for an interview we will clean it for free”
Apparently his sign has been up since the beginning of this year, but thanks to an Instagram post an Astoria community account (@astoryofastoria) it has finally started to gain traction.
In a world that seems to be increasingly focused on money and personal advantage, NYC stands as a bastion of inclusion. This goes some way to prove that point. Chapeau, Nicole’s Cleaners.
