NYC Public School Students Participating In ‘High-Risk’ Extracurricular Activities Are Mandated To Receive The COVID-19 Vaccine

This mandate is effective immediately.

Friday morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio shared an additional mandate with Brian Lehrer on WNYC that all students 12+ partaking in extracurricular activities considered to be ‘high-risk’ will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. These ‘high-risk’ extracurricular activities include chorus, musical theater, band, dance, cheerleading, and marching band.

Mayor Bill de Blasio explained that this new mandate is in accordance to CDC guidelines, as the same requirement has already been set forth weeks prior for students participating in ‘high-risk’ sports.

Students who do not follow the mandate will not be able to participate in such activities.

“Do us all a tremendous favor, do the right thing, get your child vaccinated,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio to parents of students.
