It’s summertime in New York and the livin’ is easy! And with the latest news from one of NYC’s most beloved and convenient beach day transit options, it’s about to get even easier.
Since its origins in 2022, the Rockaway Rocket has been the ultimate hack for beach-bound New Yorkers looking to trade sweltering subway platforms for a breezy cruise.
And now the good news for north Brooklyn and western Queens locals: NYC Ferry has officially announced that the Rocket is making its triumphant return for the 2026 summer season starting Saturday, July 11th!
Routes, Fares and Schedules
The Rockaway Rocket is designed to help you skip the massive summer lines by offering a guaranteed, reserved seat directly to the sand. Here is what the service looks like for this year:
- The Route: Direct service connecting Long Island City (LIC) and Greenpoint straight down to Rockaway.
- The Cost: $12 each way. Tickets are officially on sale now and must be purchased in advance via the NYC Ferry app.
- The Schedule: The Rocket operates exclusively on weekends and holidays from July 11th through September 7th (Labor Day).
- Frequency: While standard ferry routes run all day, the Rocket features a limited schedule tailored for a perfect beach day, offering morning departures to get you down to the shore and two afternoon/evening return trips to bring you back to the city.

What to Know Before You Go
Because this is a premium, reservation–based service, it runs on a strict schedule. Keep these crucial details in mind before you head to the landing:
- Arrive Early: You must arrive at the landing at least 10 minutes prior to the departure time printed on your ticket. If you miss this window, you will not be allowed to board, and your spot may be given away.
- App Only: You cannot use standard ferry tickets or OMNY for this route. Make sure you have the NYC Ferry app downloaded and your digital tickets ready to scan before you get in line.
- Beat the Heat: Non-reserved boats on the standard Rockaway route see massive lines on 90-degree days, so booking your $12 ticket early is highly recommended if you want to lock in a guaranteed departure time.
Pack your sunscreen, grab your beach towel, and get ready to cruise your way into the perfect New York summer weekend!
