Jazz Age Lawn Party has become a staple part of summer in New York City. It’s here from June 14th-15th and August 9th-10th only. It’s located right on Governors Island on Colonel Way!
The prohibition era celebration started out in 2005 as a small gathering of 1920’s aficionados has been transformed over the years into one of the city’s most loved parties. Now in its 20th year, this gathering worthy of Gatsby himself kicks off at 11 a.m. and features dance lessons, lots of music, a variety of food, old school vintage vendors and more!
1. You’ll need to reserve a ferry ride to access Governor’s Island.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you can arrive at any point during that time to enjoy the experience. But it’s recommended to get there early for a great spot! From Manhattan, ferries leave from Battery Maritime Building, located at 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan. From Brooklyn, catch the ferry from two locations, Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park and Red Hook/Atlantic Basin.

2. VIP Picnic tickets are still available for both weekends!
Jazz Age Lawn Party is a fun throwback with dancing but it’s also a picnic! Instead of lugging everything with you, there are still “Taste of France VIP Picnic for 2” tickets up for grabs! For $175, this ticket includes entry to the experience for two people plus one commemorative picnic tote containing.
In this tote you’ll get one chilled bottle of premium French wine (Choice of White, Rosé, or Red), a sandwich featuring President cheese on a fresh baguette (choice of Comte 6 month aged, Société Roquefort Abeille or Valbreso 100% Pure Sheep’s Milk Cheese), a home-made cookie from Brig’s Sweet Shop, two cold bottles of water.
A commemorative Jazz Age Lawn Party 20th Anniversary picnic blanket and a take-home portrait from our “Paper Moon” photo booth is also a part of this ticket. Other extra goodies from sponsors are added too! Snag these picnic tickets before they’re gone!
3. Make sure you have some cash with you, just in case!
Most vendors and trucks might accept credit cards onsite and there are ATM machines. For alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks, only cash is accepted. To avoid lenghty lines at the machines, bring cash!
There are limited vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for purchase so if you need to bring your own snacks you can! Sometimes food truck lines can be lengthy so feel free to bring your own snacks for the busy day of fun from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. *Outside alcohol is not allowed (bags are searched before entering). Any non-alcoholic beverages will need to be sealed when going through security.
4. Dress Up (Most People Do) Or Come As You Are.
Even though 1920s attire is fun and encouraged, it’s technically not mandatory! So pull on a flapper dress or a sundress. Many people spruce up their outfit as part of the theme and it’s great for photo-ops with friends. The majority of guests do dress up and go all out! But whether you pack a pocket watch or an Apple watch, just have fun! (Wear comfortable shoes or bring them as a backup).
5. Jazz Age Lawn Party Is Not Only For Adults…
There’s no age requirement, Jazz Age Lawn Party welcomes little and big suspender-wearing individuals. Strollers are allowed onsite too! Tickets for children under five are free but tickets still must be reserved by their adult chaperones. (Unless it’s a service dog, furry family members will need to stay at home!)
