The 12th annual Summer Streets activities are coming to a close this weekend, so make sure to get out there and enjoy one of the city’s main avenues completely car free!
Summer Streets is a city wide initiative that opens nearly 7 miles of Park Avenue and connecting streets from Foley Square to East 72nd Street for pedestrians, cyclists and joggers to enjoy. This Saturday, August 17th, will be the last weekend to take advantage of roaming the streets sans vehicles from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Free food, fitness classes, performances and art workshops are all a part of this initiative for New Yorkers to get moving outdoors in a way that is hardly ever accessible. The event is especially family friendly and offers activities such as a 165-foot zip line, sports zone, rock climbing wall, free workouts, a dog park, yoga, and a dance festival along multiple “rest stops” throughout the route.
Even if you aren’t planning to take part in the festivities, make sure to plan accordingly as buses will be re-routed, parking will be restricted, and traffic to and from the Brooklyn Bridge will be diverted.
