Summer Streets is a city wide initiative that opens a portion of Park Avenue and connecting streets for pedestrians, cyclists and joggers to enjoy. This year it was extended to more than 8 miles of open streets, the longest Summer Streets yet, and spanned from Brooklyn Bridge to East Harlem, and this Saturday, August 20th, will be the last weekend to take advantage of roaming the streets sans vehicles from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Free food, fitness classes, performances, and art workshops are all a part of this initiative for New Yorkers to get moving outdoors in a way that is hardly ever accessible. The event is especially family friendly and offers activities such as a dance party, dog yoga, free workouts, and more along multiple “rest stops” throughout the route.
Even if you aren’t planning to take part in the festivities, make sure to plan accordingly as buses will be re-routed, parking will be restricted, and traffic to and from the Brooklyn Bridge will be diverted.
