A new culinary hotspot has arrived in one of NYC’s most iconic buildings, and omakase lovers with a taste for sightseeing should take note.
This fall, Sushi Beauu, the creation of Hokkaido-born, New York–based hospitality veteran Keisuke Kasagi—known for shaping some of the city’s favorite Japanese dining spots—soft-opened in the Empire State Building.
The restaurant, located on the ground floor of the iconic building, is modeled after a serene, nature inspired haven. Conceptualized by acclaimed Japanese designer Yuta Tsuchiya, the space blends tranquility with meticulous craftsmanship features terracotta flooring and furnishings crafted in Finland.
A ten-seat wooden counter serves as the centerpiece, allowing diners an intimate view of the chefs at work. The space is lit up by a charming spherical paper pendant from Kojima-an in Kyoto. The space is adorned with carefully curated Japanese decorative pieces, enhancing attention to detail that adds to the dining experience.
Kasagi has welcomed Executive Chef Tetsu Kaminakaya, a seasoned culinary talent who recently moved to New York after decades of running his own acclaimed restaurant, Hanabi, in Japan. All fish is sourced locally from Japan by Chef Testu, ensuring that each experience is both fresh and includes imaginative and unusual flavor combinations.
Kasagi offers two omakase experiences to suit different tastes: the Classic at $100 and the Seasonal at $140, each thoughtfully curated to highlight Chef Tetsu’s inventive flavors and premium ingredients.
The meal features 18 courses, described as a “satisfying culinary journey that will keep diners intrigued.”
Following an opening course that will rotate and be curated by the chef each time, guests will enjoy a blend of Nigiri’s, handrolls, miso soup and a warm egg custard, before enjoying Imo Yokan, a traditional Japanese sweet potato dessert.
