The team behind Emily and Emmy Squared is opening another restaurant in the East Village this fall.
The area recently got it’s own Emmy Squared which serves delicious Detroit-style pizza. Restauranteurs Emily and Matt Hyland are deciding with their new place to step away from the popular square pies and focusing on unique grilled pizza.
This Rhode Island style creation is hard to find in Manhattan (as was Detroit-style pizza before Emmy Squared), and a perfect realm for the Emily team to step into. According to a report by Grub Street, the pizzas at this new spot will be cooked over a hybrid grill of gas and charcoal to create a soft-yet-crispy crust.
This space—which will take over GG’s venue at 511 East 5th Street between Avenue A and B—will venture away from pizza dishes more so than their other locations and feature menu items like homemade pastas, polenta johnnycakes, and grilled whole fish.
Although the restaurant does not have a name yet it is scheduled to open in November. It will be the team’s second location in the East Village since Emmy Squared opened just this summer at 32 First Avenue.
