East Village drinkers may need to find a new watering hole as the neighborhood staple, Lucy’s, faces eviction. According to a recent post from EV Grieve, the bar recently received a 30-day Notice of Termination on its door.
Apparently, the new landlord is threatening to terminate the bar’s lease, effective by the end of the month. The mix-used building was just sold in December for $19.1 million dollars.
Before the sale, Lucy’s owner, Ludwika “Lucy” Mickevicius, was paying month-to-month to the previous landlord. According to EV Grieve, the new landlord wants to increase rent to $25,000 a month—a price Mickevicius can’t afford to pay.
From what we know, Lucy’s has been temporarily closed since the New York City Department of Health shut it down for “Food Protection Certificate (FPC) not held by manager or supervisor of food operations” on November 28, 2023. This is not the first time Lucy’s has had a problem with the DOH.
Stay tuned as we find out more surrounding the neighborhood dive bar.
