Who knew this pandemic would bring us back to the 1950s, at least entertainment-wise?
First it was the return of drive-in movie theaters, and now people are realizing that drive-in restaurants might hold the secret to safe dining during a pandemic. Sycamore Drive-In Restaurant, located in Bethel, Connecticut (about an hour and a half drive from NYC) has been around since the ’50s, and now it offers a chance for you to “dine out” while still following social distancing rules.
The Sycamore has been continuously open since 1948, and offers “car-hop” service for their famous dishes like French Style Steak Burgers and Homemade Root Beer whose recipes have been passed down from the original owners.
The restaurant has remained open during COVID-19, offering car-hop, take-out, or curbside service. Car-hop service is when they bring the food out to you on old-fashioned car-hop trays that hook onto your window. Retro!
You can see the full menu here, which offers breakfast, lunch and diner. Expect lots of those ’50s classics like burgers, shakes, franks, and fries. And be sure to check their Facebook page for daily specials too. You can also check Facebook for updated daily hours, but they appear to be open from 11am-7pm seven days a week.
The drive-in restaurant is located at 282 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel, CT 06801. Their phone number is 203-748-2716.
