Now this is a truly magical NYC moment.
As New York Harbor has become a designated feeding ground for dolphins, we probably shouldn’t be surprised that they were frolicking through the waters this past weekend. But, this story and video will probably astound you!
This past Sunday, August 14 around 1 p.m., a small group of kayakers were out with Manhattan Kayak Company, leaving from the Pier 84 Boathouse at the Hudson River & West 44th St., paddling towards Edgewater, NJ — one of the kayakers, Habiba Hussain, shared with us. As they were in the water they were greeted by at least three different dolphins, who stayed in the area for almost an hour before they ultimately lost sight of them.
“I knew there had been rare sightings of dolphins on the Hudson earlier this summer but had assumed they had left the area, so I was absolutely amazed to see them…I couldn’t believe my eyes!” Hussain told us via Instagram. “And to top it off they stayed and played with us (there were two of us on kayaks and no one else nearby) for almost an hour — an absolute privilege and phenomenal experience!”
