Dollar slices in NYC feel like an urban legend at this point–an iconic, grab-and-go staple that’s practically all but vanished from everyday life. But for a very limited time, they’re making a crispy, cheesy comeback in the East Village.
To celebrate its reopening after a four-month renovation, Emmy Squared Pizza East Village is bringing back $1 Detroit-style slices as part of its “Cheaper Than Gas” promo.
Starting Monday, March 23, New Yorkers can score slices for just a buck (yes, really) during select hours, giving the city a rare chance to revisit a once-common bargain–only this time, with thick, square pies, airy dough, and that signature frico crust.
Guests can choose from several toppings from Emmy Squared’s beloved Grandma-style Detroit pies, known for their square shape, crispy bottom, and signature sauce stripes. Some combinations the pizzeria is beloved for include:
- Meatsiah: red sauce, cheese blend, ezzo pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, shaved sirloin
- Good Paulie: caramelized onions, pork sausage, smoked gouda
- Angel: ricotta, truffle cream, cremini mushrooms, and parsley pesto
And if that’s not enough, you can wash it down with a $5 beer–because some pairings just make too much sense not to take advantage of.
The catch? This throwback won’t stick around for long. The “Cheaper Than Gas” deal runs in two short windows: March 23–26 and March 30–April 2.
Because in true New York fashion, the only thing more fleeting than a dollar slice is the moment you realize you should’ve grabbed a second one.
