Brooklyn is losing a massive piece of its culinary scene this spring. 😭
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que officially announced they will close their beloved Gowanus location as their current lease comes to an end.
The massive Union Street spot has been serving up heaping plates of smoked brisket and racks of ribs to hungry New Yorkers for 15 years, and its upcoming departure marks the end of an era for the neighborhood.
The legendary barbecue joint was one of the earliest restaurant anchors to set up shop in Gowanus long before the neighborhood’s massive rezoning and development boom took off.
Management confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement thanking both their loyal customers and dedicated staff for a decade and a half of incredible memories.
The final days of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Brooklyn
CEO Mike Nugent shared his immense gratitude for the community that supported them over the years.
He noted it has been an absolute honor to be welcomed into Brooklyn and that the team had a front-row seat to watching the incredible neighborhood evolve.
While the exact final date of service remains up in the air, barbecue fans still have a little bit of time to get their final orders in.
The expansive Gowanus space was always a top-tier destination for everything from casual weekend lunches to huge group dinners. We are certainly going to miss the familiar smell of smoke wafting down Union Street.
Where to get your barbecue fix moving forward
Brooklyn residents mourning the loss of those famous honey hush cornbread pieces and pulled pork sliders do have a silver lining.
The chain is keeping its other city outpost wide open.
Here is what you need to know about getting your Dinosaur Bar-B-Que fix after the Brooklyn spot closes:
- The Harlem location on 125th Street will remain completely operational.
- Any unused gift cards will be honored at the Brooklyn location until their final day of service.
- Once the Brooklyn spot shuts down, you can still use those active gift cards at the Harlem outpost or their four upstate New York restaurants.
To stay updated on the official last day of service, be sure to keep a close eye on the official Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Instagram page.
We highly recommend grabbing a table and a massive plate of ribs while you still can.
