Get ready to see a sea of New Yorkers dressed head-to-toe in white once again, as the legendary Dîner en Blanc has announced its return to NYC on Monday, September 19 after a two-year hiatus.
This French-inspired, pop-up dinner party made its US debut in NYC a decade ago which jumpstarted a global phenomenon, and now they’re preparing to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Previously gathering together thousands of people to iconic NYC locations such as Lincoln Center and Bryant Park, this year its keeping an air of mystery around it and making its way to a secret location.
Attendees are asked to wear their finest white attire (originality encouraged as long as it’s stylish and tasteful) and bring with them a folding table, two white chairs, and a white tablecloth. You’ll be asked to meet at an assigned departure location, kept undisclosed until the last minute, where a volunteer will then escort you to your destination.
You can choose to pack your own picnic basket with fine food and proper stemware and dinnerware, or reserve a catered one in advance from Le Dîner en Blanc’s website. As bringing your own alcohol is prohibited, guests can choose to also reserve wine or champagne in advance if they wish.
This elegant soirée will treat guests to a night of celebration with live music and dancing, complete with festive white balloons. The waving of thousands of cloth napkins mark the beginning of the dinner, while the lighting of sparklers let guests know they are now free to mingle.
To be part of the celebrations, you can sign up now by visiting Le Dîner en Blanc’s website and clicking on the Register tab. However, you may need luck on your side to get the invitation–the 2019 soiree hosted 5,500 guests while the waitlist held over 60,000 people.
And, being the pandemic forced Le Dîner en Blanc to postpone the occasion for the past two years, anticipation has only grown, so we’re expecting a pretty long waitlist once again.
