If you’ve got a trip booked out of JFK, you may want to double-check your itinerary.
Delta Air Lines has officially made a temporary summer service suspension permanent, meaning nonstop flights from JFK to three major U.S. cities won’t be returning after all.
While travelers will still be able to reach each destination on Delta, they’ll now have to depart from a different New York airport.

What to know
Back on June 7, Delta placed three domestic routes on hiatus to manage rising operating expenses and fuel costs. At the time, the carrier intended to bring all three back online in September. However, following a routine network evaluation, Delta opted to drop the flights permanently.
The three nonstop routes officially removed from JFK are:
- Houston — George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Memphis — Memphis International Airport (MEM)
- St. Louis — St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL)
Delta issued a statement citing routine network planning behind the decision and apologized for any inconvenience to passengers.
Where Travelers Need to Go Instead: The LGA Alternative
The good news for NYC-area travelers is that Delta isn’t pulling out of these markets entirely.
If you are heading to Houston, Memphis, or St. Louis, Delta continues to operate nonstop flights to all three cities out of LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
What this means for your trip: You won’t need to change airlines, but you will need to depart from (and return to) a different airport in Queens.
For impacted flyers who held reservations for JFK departures, Delta customer service representatives are reaching out directly to assist with rebooking through LaGuardia or arranging alternative travel plans.

What to Do If You’re Scheduled to Fly
- Check Your In-App Itinerary: Open the Fly Delta app or log into your account to review any automatic itinerary updates or notifications.
- Review Rebooking Options: If your JFK flight was cancelled, you can accept a reroute out of LGA or request a full refund to your original payment method.
- Verify Airport Logistics: If rebooked through LGA, double-check your ground transportation, parking, or transit connections, as travel times to LGA differ from JFK depending on where you are starting in the tri-state area.
