Mit dem bevorstehenden Memorial Day Weekend werden die meisten Strände in New York am kommenden Wochenende, dem 25. Mai, offiziell wieder geöffnet – der inoffizielle Beginn des Sommers! Ab diesem Wochenende werden die Rettungsschwimmer täglich von 10 bis 18 Uhr im Einsatz sein.
Die Freibäder der Stadt werden voraussichtlich am 29. Juni, gleich nach Schulschluss, für die Saison geöffnet. Die Öffnungszeiten sind dann täglich von 11 bis 19 Uhr.

1. Jacob Riis Park Beach, Queens
Dieser Strand am Meer mit begrünten Wegen ist sauber und bietet viel Platz zum Ausruhen. Außerdem gibt es rund um den Strand zahlreiche gastronomische Angebote wie die Rockaway Clam Bar, den Riis Park Beach Bazaar und viele mehr!

2. Coney Island Beach, Brooklyn
Dieser kultige New Yorker Strand bietet 3 Meilen Sonne und Sand, und es gibt in der Regel Volleyball- und Basketballplätze, auf denen man sich bewegen kann. 3. Orchard Beach, Die Bronx
Orchard Beach ist der einzige öffentliche Strand in der Bronx, ein künstlich angelegter Strand, der bereits in den 1930er Jahren angelegt wurde. Er ist 1,1 Meilen lang und 115 Hektar groß und verfügt über eine Promenade, einen zentralen Pavillon, Snackbars und mehr. Seit der Neugestaltung vor einigen Jahren ist dies der perfekte Ort, um einen Sonnenuntergang auf der Promenade zu genießen oder eine Wanderung in der waldreichen Umgebung zu unternehmen.

6. Fort Tilden Beach, Queens
Dieser Strand am Breezy Point ist etwas unauffälliger und abgelegener, aber das Schwimmen ist nicht erlaubt, da keine Rettungsschwimmer im Einsatz sind. Bleiben Sie also beim Sonnenbaden oder Angeln! Der nächstgelegene Parkplatz befindet sich in Riis, es ist also ein kleiner Spaziergang (oder Sie können mit dem Fahrrad fahren), aber Sie entgehen den Menschenmassen. Ein weiteres historisches Element ist das Fort aus dem Jahr 1917, das Sie besteigen können, um einen Panoramablick auf die Strandpromenade zu genießen.

7. Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn
Lassen Sie sich nicht vom Namen täuschen, dieser Strand liegt tatsächlich in Brooklyn (östlich von Brighton und Coney Island, um genau zu sein). Er ist etwas ruhiger und zieht oft Einheimische mit familienfreundlicher Stimmung an.

10. Wolfe’s Pond Beach, Staten Island
Wolfe’s Pond Beach wird als „das bestgehütete Geheimnis der Stadt“ bezeichnet. Er ist etwas kleiner als andere Strände auf Staten Island, aber auch weniger bekannt und daher ruhig und ohne viele Menschenmassen.

11. Jones Beach, Wantagh
