Die NY Liberty haben gestern Abend im Barclay’s Center ihre allererste WNBA-Meisterschaft gewonnen, und New York City ist voll im Feiermodus!
Bürgermeister Eric Adams kündigte an, dass das Rathaus und andere städtische Gebäude heute Abend (Montag, 21. Oktober) zu Ehren des ersten Sieges in der 28-jährigen Geschichte der NY Liberty in schillerndes Licht getaucht werden.

In einer Zeit, in der der Rest des Landes endlich das unendliche Talent unserer WNBA anerkennt, sind wir stolz darauf, dass New York City die Trophäe mit nach Hause nimmt. Wir danken unseren WNBA-Champions dafür, dass sie ein Vorbild für unsere Stadt sind und uns die Werte Mut, Entschlossenheit und harte Arbeit vorleben. Jetzt können wir es kaum erwarten, auch abseits des Spielfelds zu feiern und euch die Parade zu geben, die ihr verdient habt – den Canyon of Heroes hinunter!
Der Titel wurde in Spiel 5 gegen die Minnesota Lynx am Sonntag, den 20. Oktober, gewonnen. Die NY Liberty brachen außerdem einen WNBA-Rekord, denn sie waren das erste Team in der Geschichte, das in zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Spielzeiten mehr als 30 Siege einfahren konnte.
